Ivan Kurt for Jones County Supervisor

Ivan Kurt, 59, Republican, has announced his candidacy for the Jones County Supervisor position, District 3. He has filed all of the necessary papers and will be on the ballot for the June 8th primary election. Ivan is a lifelong resident of the Cascade area. He is the son of the late Raymond and Margaret “Mag” Kurt. He grew up on the farm, attended a one-room country school, and graduated from Aquin High School, Cascade. He then attended Brown Institute of Technology, Radio Broadcast Division, Minneapolis, MN, and graduated with a First Class Operator's License. His first job was an operating engineer at KDUB-TV in Dubuque, operating and controlling the entire behind-the-TV-operations.

In 1973, Ivan returned home to work on the family farm. In 1977, Mr. Kurt attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City. In 1982 when the farm was sold, he started in the auction and real estate business full-time. In 1989 he opened and still operates Ivan Kurt Auction and Realty, handling many auctions and real estate transactions in and around Jones and Dubuque Counties.

Ivan has been married for 38 years to the former Bette McAllister. They have three children: Jason and Lisa (Lynch) Kurt, Angie Kurt-Sconsa (Mrs. Mike), and Dr. Michelle Kurt, Iowa City. They have four grandchildren.

Mr. Kurt has served on different boards of various organizations and conducted numerous charity auctions over the years. Ivan has over 32 years of experience dealing with the public and being a self-employed small business owner. His hobbies include spending time with his family and running the combine and grain truck in the fall on his son's farm.
